St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Killorglin, Ireland

St. Patricks Day in Ireland is different than one would expect from the states. The best way I can describe it is to compare it to the Fourth of July. Think of EVERY small town having a parade, families coming together to celebrate, and of course all of the festivities that go along with it.

My family and I had the joy of watching the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Killorglin, Ireland today. It wasn’t a huge production like you think of the Macy’s Day Parade, but more along the lines of a small town Texas parade. So we felt like we fit right in! I loved watching St. Patrick sticking out of the sunroof of a car, all of the green, shamrocks, flags, horses, rugby and rowing teams walking down the street. My favorite part was the bagpipes and drummers at the beginning of the parade, that is something you probably wouldn’t see in small town Texas!

Thanks to the citizens from Killorglin for your hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed our first St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ireland and can’t wait to return to experience another one. Please feel free to use and share the pictures from todays parade at your leisure. (not for commercial use)
